Inspiration From Across The Pond
“Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.”
I saw this quote somewhere and I think it’s so true! Last summer I had an amazing opportunity to visit Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint® Workshop in Oxford, England. This once-in-a-lifetime creative retreat with Annie herself provided me with a mecca of creative inspiration.
To say that I fell in love with England is an understatement. I was in utter awe of the nature and architecture. Although I had a busy schedule, I did have time to wander through the narrow streets of Oxford and later, of London. I think I drove my travel companions crazy by walking so slowly and taking lots of pictures! I was determined to soak in and document every detail!
One of the most amazing things to me were the flowers. They were everywhere. England’s slightly rainy climate must be the perfect scenario for abundant blooms. Flowers graced buildings and storefronts like beautiful necklaces and garlands of glory.
I was also very impressed by all the charming, small, independently owned shops. In Europe, shopkeeping seems to be an art form – and so much more appreciated. The shops provided artwork and color on the most amazing backdrop of European architecture and design I had ever seen. There were little shops everywhere and each one was more beautifully curated and lovingly laid out than the next. Shopkeeping is such an inspiring art form and confirmed to me that I am destined to do what I do in my little shop.
The European palette inspired me to create some of that magical atmosphere and flair back here in my own little shop on High Street.
It took a while to find the perfect blooms to accomplish the look in my mind’s eye. These soft pink beauties remind me of an English garden rose, it’s like they were meant to be. My hope is that this romantic old world touch invites you in to peruse a little, relax a little, smile a little, and hopefully buy a little! 😉
Please join us as we celebrate our 16th year of shopkeeping and serving you with a “Sip and See” tea on May 16th from 11 -5. (Since the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is just a few days away, maybe we can help put you in a Royal spirit!)
