Cooking Up Fond Memories
The holidays bring such nostalgia over times past and anticipation for new things to come. I’m thinking about the upcoming year and the fact that next May will be our 15th anniversary. It seems like just a moment ago we were commemorating our 10th anniversary of Southbank Gift Company.
It’s no secret that I love to entertain. For our 10th anniversary I hosted a celebratory luncheon with ten of my Southbank friends to be featured in “The Gathering of Friends – Come Gather at my Table” Volume 5, edition. Michelle Huxtable, author of the cookbook, flew in from Utah with a pre-planned menu. We shopped and cooked into the evening hours to prepare. (I think my favorite menu item was the Orange Chicken Bowtie Salad with Orange Cream Dressing.)
My favorite part and the most unique feature of the series is the shopping list that’s provided at the end of each chapter. It even includes a list of pantry staples for the recipes so you can double-check what you have on hand. How easy is that?
The event truly was a gathering of friends and the cookbook has been a fun item to carry at the store. It’s a great gift and I have loved hearing how my friends have used the recipes. Michelle went on to publish two more editions in the series, Volume 6 “A Year of Holidays at Home” and Volume 7, “Entertaining with Simplicity.” Hard copies will no longer be published, so it is a little bittersweet knowing it will soon be out of publication.
I love being a shopkeeper; the best part is the people. I feel like everyone who walks through the door (front or back) is like having a friend or family member coming to visit.
BEE MERRY! I hope the next few days you enjoy your own gatherings with friends and family. Warmest wishes for a bright New Year!
